NEDC: Supporting Patients with Eating Disorders – A resource guide for GPs

Primary care plays a critical role in reducing the burden of eating disorders through timely recognition and action. Your role is key in how individuals experiencing eating disorders navigate their recovery journey. Early action changes the outcome of the trajectory of an eating disorder and having the information, resources, and training available to you to will strengthen your ability to support those individuals.

Factsheets and Referral Pathways Quick-reference guide for early identification, screening, diagnosis, and treatment. Includes MBS items, referral tips, and shared care steps. RACGP CPD-approved training (1 hour).  

HealthPathways: Localised clinical pathways for assessment, management, and referral. Tailored to your region, developed by PHNs. Contact your local PHN for access. 

eLearning and Digital Tools Eating Disorder Core Skills – eLearning for GPs: 4-hour evidence-based training on assessment, treatment, MBS items and referrals. RACGP, GPMHSC and ACRRM accredited.  

Eating Disorder Safe Healthcare - eLearning for health professionals: 90-minute training providing information and practical tools to recognise and address stigma, use supportive language, identify early signs of eating disorders and promote safe, weight neutral care.  

Management of eating disorders in people with higher weight: 60-minute training designed to equip health professionals with the knowledge and skill to recognise, respond to, and support people experiencing an eating disorder and are of higher weight.
